PETERBOROUGH Milton came up just short in the Northamptonshire Handicap League final on Sunday.Having qualified for the event in some style, the local lads were beaten 11-7 by Collingtree Park in the final at Northants Golf Club.
After a comfortable four-hole win for Stuart Bothwell and Tony Edmonds in the opening match, Milton's only other success was delivered by Gary Welsh and Graham Hodson.
With two halved matches, the heavy 9-0 defeat suffered by Alistair Munro and Derek Mankelow proved to be the decisive result as Collingtree clinched the win.
Captain Dave Wright said: "We were gutted to be honest but it has only made us more determined to come back and try to win it next year."
JAMES Price and Stuart Randall are the new holders of the Pearl Assurance Trophy at Orton Meadows.
Price and Randall returned a stableford score of 42 points to see off the challenge of Richard Panter and Andy Ross on 40 points from Stacey Homewood and John young in third on 39 points.
YOUNGSTERS Jordan Burdall and Ryan Tarrant proved that youth can trump experience by winning the pairs betterball competition at Greetham on Saturday.
Burdall and Tarrant recorded a score of 46 points to take the lead which they held for the rest of the day.
But the youthful pair did have a scare after realising Alan Bennett and Greg Shelton had equalled their mark but breathed a sigh of relief when realising they had won on countback.
Burdall said: "We know each other's game really well and gelled together nicely - 46 points is a really good score."
THERE was yet more success for Greetham Valley's in-form professional Neil Evans in the latest Lincolnshire PGA Pro-Am tournament.
Reigning Lincolnshire Order Of Merit winner Evans and his three-man amateur team carded 40 points at Torksey Golf Club near Lincoln to take the title.
Evans notched six birdies and just two bogeys to add the event to his growing list of wins.
