Golf: Golden Greetham pairing form a winning Alliance

GREETHAM Valley skipper Neil Harris and club professional Neil Evans have won the opening round of the Lincolnshire Alliance series.

GREETHAM Valley skipper Neil Harris and club professional Neil Evans have won the opening round of the Lincolnshire Alliance series.The Alliance is a series of nine better ball pairs competitions held at various club across Lincolnshire to provide competitive golf during a normally quiet period.

And Harris and Evans got off to the perfect start, beating a field of 70 golfers to win with a 10 under score of 62.

There was more good news for Evans when he came out on top in the Lincolnshire Open at Belton Park Golf Club.

In a strong wind, the former Open qualifier shot a first round 72 followed by a 69 - which included four birdies and two bogeys -to win the event by four clear shots.

IN the end of season knockouts at Greetham, Andy Queen beat Ken McCann to take the 0-13 singles title and the Rutland Shield Division One.

The 14 to 28 singles match went to Andy Parker, who beat off a spirited challenge from Gary Graham to take the Rutland Shield for Division Two.

The Doubles provided a win for Graham Smith and his partner Ian Copley.

They beat Steff Dutton and Oliver Davies to win the Begy Trophy while the Family Doubles went to Glen and Will Sharpe who beat another father and son pairing of Ian and Tom Bain to win n the Stimson Trophy.
