Golf roundup: Aldred limps home

editorial image

COMPETITORS in Greetham Valley’s first senior medal of 2012 learned to beware the injury golfer after David Aldred limped to victory.

Despite injuring his leg recently, Aldred still managed to shoot a sparkling round to finish with a net 65 to take the honours.

Nine handicapper Neil Lowndes carded the lowest gross round of the day when he returned with 76 to take second place. Ken Porter took third place on countback from Colin Avery after the pair both finished on net 71.

In the Winter Order of Merit, Adam Clegg refused to allow his bid for glory to be blown off course.

Despite playing in headwinds approaching 40 miles per hour, Clegg battled his way round to score 36 stableford points to take round 12 and move up to third in the overall standing.

Clegg finished one point ahead of father Paul while Martin Broughton took third place with 35 points.

In the overall standings after 12 weeks of play, Bob Beverley stays top with Neil Harris in second ahead of the resurgent Clegg.
