Three golfers received long-service awards at the recent Burghley Park Golf Club annual meeting.

Terry Baxter, Terry Burrows and Brian Plowright had all joined the club in 1965, and
received their awards from club chairman Peter Beeke, who spoke warmly of their long term commitment to the club.

“I think it says a lot about the club and the golf course when we have members who have been with us so long,” he said, “and all three of them have made very important contributions to the life of the club over the years. We now have six members who have been here more than 50 years, and we value every one of them.”

The annual meeting was attended by 112 members, and retiring club captain Richard Cook thanked all club members, on behalf of himself and ladies’ captain Chris Wright, for their generosity in raising over £7,000 during the year for their charities,Rutland Sailability and the Evergreen Trust.

Also standing down were Bob Emmins, who completed his three-year term as treasurer, having overseen a significant expansion of club membership, past captain Richard Gilbert, marketing committee chairman David Ford, and junior organiser John Mayman. David Devlin was elected as incoming club captain, Gill Bedford as incoming ladies’ captain, and Jake Brown as incoming juniors’ captain.
