Burghley boy Sanjay is a winner at Milton

Burghley Park’s Sanjay Nithiyalingam took the honours in the Junior Open at Peterborough Milton.

The four-handicapper fired a gross 74 to take the main prize by a shot from Luis Witherall from Cherwell Edge and Ellie Darnell from Wellingborough.

The best net score was a cracking 61 by Northampton Golf Club’s Henry Edwards, who was playing off 16.

Runner-up and winner of the James Berry Memorial Trophy for the best net return by a Milton member was Jake Bowden with 87-19=68.

Bowden was also a member of the Milton ‘C’ team which won the team prize with Michael Wood (85-14=71) and Charlie Armitage (83-13=70).

DANNY CAMERON TROPHY

A tournament played in memory of one of Thorpe Wood Golf Club’s most popular members was played for the first time this week.

The inaugural Danny Cameron Memorial Trophy competition was played at Thorpe Wood and was won by John Wood, Charlie Cox and Denise Payne.

Danny Cameron was a founder member of Thorpe Wood Golf Club and in the succeeding years served as a pro-active committee member and club captain.

He was also the last chairman before the club merged with Orton Meadows Golf Club in 2013 to become Nene Park Golf Club.

Cameron was a well-liked and highly respected member of the Thorpe Wood and Nene Park clubs.
