Over 100 players took part in the Burghley Park Christmas stableford competition and the New Years Day scramble.John Beeby won the Christmas event with 40 points, closely followed by Brian Peck, Gary Harrison and new captain Javan Argent who all finished one point behind.

In the New Years Day competition the winning team was David Jackson, Bryan Flatt, Mick Chapman and Bill O'Driscoll. Paul York, Craig Cameron, Bernie Clarke and Howard Boylan were second with Brett and Penny Campbell, Pat Harris and Derrick Ward third.

EDDIE Wasey took the December medal at Gedney Hill Golf Club by three clear strokes.

He carded a nett 67 to see off David Lord (nett 70), with Greg Walsh edged into third place on countback.

In the club's senior section, David Lord, Bill Sharpe and Norman Sennett won the festive Turkey Trot with a score of 60.8.

Wally Lawes, Keith Cooper and Ken Templeman were second (63.3), while Rob Newns, Derek Browett and Bob Wishart came home third (63.6).

A FEW Toft Hotel GC members braved the cold weather to play in the first MED/STAB Fun Competition arranged by the new competitions secretary Biff Smith.

The competition format saw the front nine played as a medal and the back nine as a stableford, with the final score being medal score minus stableford score.

Club captain Stuart Parker (42-5=37) won the event with vice-captain Chris Elsey (49-10=39) second.

BOB Keen won the latest Winter Medal Series at Toft from a field of 25 on countback from Bill Smith. Results: 1 Bob Keen 97-24 =73, 2 Bill Smith 85-12=73, 3 Phil Mason 88-13=75, 4 Chris Elsey 95-19=76.

GREETHAM Valley captains Neil Crees and Angela Wheeler shook off the after-effects of New Year celebrations and the freezing weather to continue a traditional start to 2010 for the club.

The new captains' drive-in always takes place at Greetham on January 1 and both cleared the water on the 10th hole of the Lakes course with relative ease.

The members then took part in a nine-hole competition over the front and back nines. Geoff Thomas and Jim Wheeler won the front nine competition with 37 stableford points beating Dennis Millington and Christine Harper on countback.

Michael Fish and Ian Cunningham won the back nine event with 41 points.
