Gannon: We'll be the entertainers

MANAGER Jim Gannon wants Posh fans to be entertained from the first whistle to the last.

MANAGER Jim Gannon wants Posh fans to be entertained from the first whistle to the last.Gannon has led Posh to Championship victories over fast-falling QPR and fellow strugglers Ipswich Town in both home matches since succeeding Mark Cooper in the London Road hotseat.

Gannon will have the opportunity to extend his unblemished home record when Posh entertain Sheffield United at London Road this afternoon and he is keen for those in the stands to enjoy all 90 minutes.

That wasn't necessarily the case on Tuesday night against Ipswich when his side only shone after a surprise change of personnel late in the first half.

Gannon received a fair bit of flak at the time for substituting popular striker Craig Mackail-Smith in favour of on-loan Reuben Reid after 35 minutes of that match.

Posh were trailing to an early Daryl Murphy strike at that point but stormed to a 3-1 success courtesy of a cracking turnaround after the break.

Gannon said: "It is understandable why the fans were getting a bit frustrated on Tuesday.

"They were watching a team showing nervousness and making errors, but slowly I think that they realised why we made the changes we did and why we were playing in a certain way.

"I want the fans to enjoy themselves, but we have to stimulate them from the word go, by playing the right way and showing a cutting edge.

"We have to show some energy and adrenalin, but the fans know we can't be going forward all the time and that there is method in our madness.

"Sometimes we are passing the ball about because we want to work it down the weak side of the opponents' defence or we are just patiently waiting for gaps to appear."

And Gannon is also anxious to address a lack of attacking threat posed by Posh in their two away games under his stewardship.

Posh were beaten 2-0 at promotion-chasing Cardiff and 1-0 at Middlesbrough. They have only scored one goal in four away league games in 2010.

Gannon added: "I don't think there has been enough conviction away from home and I will be delving into my sports psychology books to try and effect the group and certain individuals.

"Don't get me wrong, there were aspects of both games that I was pleased with, but it is a case of being mentally stronger on the road."

Posh did not anticipate any problems with today's game going ahead after the heavy snowfall on Thursday.
