NEW Peterborough United boss Jim Gannon is a certainty to be offered a long-term contract before the end of the season.Posh director of football Barry Fry insists a longer deal for the 41 year-old former Stockport and Motherwell boss is a formality regardless of the club's Championship results for the rest of this season.
Gannon replaced sacked manager Mark Cooper on Monday and revealed that he is initially on a short-term, 18-match deal until the end of the current campaign.

But Fry said: "The only reason Jim has not been offered a longer deal already is because he has yet to meet the chairman face-to-face.
"They spoke on the phone on Monday and they got on great. They look very well-matched as they have the same philosophy on the game.
"The chairman was always impressed with the way Stockport played under Jim, particularly as he had to work on a shoestring budget.
"Jim favoured developing young players and that is something the chairman wants to continue here. They are on the same wavelength on a lot of footballing matters.
"Jim has always been on our radar and he came up in conversation when we suspected Darren Ferguson would be leaving the club.
"Unfortunately when Darren did leave, Jim had a job at Motherwell, but he was always going to be our first choice when it didn't work out with Mark Cooper.
"It's a formality that Jim will be offered a longer contract. That would be the case if he lost every game this season.
"In fact the chairman wants to fly Jim to the United States to sort a deal out, but Jim is concentrating on the players for now."
Gannon makes his managerial bow in today?s Championship match with QPR at London Road (3pm).
QPR's caretaker-manager Mick Harford admits the presence of a new boss in the opposite dug-out won?t help his team?s cause.
Harford said: "A new manager usually revitalises a team, but we will go there in a positive frame of mind".
Gannon will give his current squad a chance to impress before considering a move in the transfer market. Emergency loans are allowed as from next week.
THE Posh Annual General Meeting will be held at the club on Tuesday, March 16 (noon).
The club are expected to announce a second successive loss in excess of 1 million.
