Wisbech boss will work on their discipline

WISBECH boss Gary Setchell is convinced the club can leave their recent Ridgeons League struggles behind them - thanks to better discipline and an improved injury record.

WISBECH boss Gary Setchell is convinced the club can leave their recent Ridgeons League struggles behind them - thanks to better discipline and an improved injury record.Setchell was rarely able to field a settled side after taking over in December due to those two factors. It didn't stop Wisbech holding onto their Premier Division status, but Setchell now has his sights fixed firmly on making progress.

He said: "We didn't help ourselves on either of those fronts last season.

"Our discipline wasn't the greatest and it is something I am going to be big on this season.

"And we won't be playing lads that aren't fully fit either. If people are not fit enough to train on a Thursday, they won't be considered for the game on the Saturday.

"As long as we can sort the injuries and the discipline out we will do well. I would like to think we can finish somewhere between eighth and 12th in mid-table."

The Fenmen will again play at their temporary Outwell base next season while work continues on a new ground.

Setchell added: "I have spoken to between 30 and 40 players but it's not easy trying to sell a club to them that doesn't have a ground."

NEW Bourne boss Martyn Lakin is expecting up to 50 players to turn up to pre-season training which gets underway on Tuesday at the Gleed Boys' School in Spalding. Bourne are set to lose midfield man Andy Toyne, top scorer Miles Hunter, wideman Sam Kirton and striker Tom Siddons.

A BIG charity football match is being staged tomorrow at Bushfield when Eye Sports FC take on a select side representing the Peterborough Sportstalk website (2pm kick-off).
