Top quality crews to race on the River Nene tomorrow
Peterborough City Rowing Club have received another massive entry for their annual Head of the Nene event tomorrow with more than 300 crews from across the country racing in the three divisions.
Peterborough City Rowing Club have received another massive entry for their annual Head of the Nene event tomorrow with more than 300 crews from across the country racing in the three divisions.The races start at the North Bank, rowing into the city centre, finishing at The Fitzwilliam Bridge. The first division at 10am is for single sculls, double sculls and pairs. Olympic champion Kieran West has entered this division in the open singles, racing for Imperial College, and he will definitely be the man to beat.
At noon the fours and quad sculls will be racing. Local interest in this division will be focused on two junior crews. The Under 15 quad who are the current national champions will be racing the club's Under 18 crew who reached the final at Henley Royal Regatta last summer.
The eights division starts at 2.30pm and will feature 91 crews including top clubs Agecroft, Molesey, River Lea and Imperial College. Three of the best rowing schools in the country will also be racing each other – Eton College have nine crews racing, Abingdon School and St Paul's School have six each.
