Niels wins top award - then admits he's unhappy!NIELS Kristian Iversen admitted he was disappointed with his 2009 performances despite being nominated as the club's rider of the year.

The Panthers management team selected the Danish ace as their top man for the past season. He received the award at the club's Dinner & Dance at the Marriott Hotel on Saturday night.

Iversen succeeded in his major aim of ousting team-mate Kenneth Bjerre as Panthers' number one rider, but he acknowledges there is still plenty of room for improvement.

Iversen said: "It is a nice honour to receive. I also won the award when I was at Wolverhampton last year.

"But I am disappointed that both myself and the team did not achieve more this season. I know we made a lot of progress as a club, but it was disappointing not to reach the Elite League play-offs at the very least.

"I did manage to become the number one which was my main target but I am not too happy with my average. I feel I should have added much more to it.

"I feel I am very close to being an out-and-out number one and my aim is become that rider next year.

"I think it is realistic to aim for a nine-point average because I able to score well both at home and away now.

"I am a Peterborough asset so it's ideal for me to ride for the club. I have told the management that, if they want me back, I will be ready to go the minute I get the call."

There were plenty of other awards dished out. Bjerre was named the rider's rider of the year, Kenneth Hansen took the most improved rider gong and Ales Dryml was nominated team member of the year.

The Panthers 100 Club selected Henning Bager as their top man of 2009.

n PANTHERS also handed out cheeky gifts to each rider and member of the management team.

Here's what they received:

Owner Rick Frost - a safety harness and hard hat after he took a tumble in the pits at Swindon.

Team manager Trevor Swales - a Viking helmet to add to his collection of ridiculous headwear.

Fellow team boss Wayne Swales - a set of ear defenders after the recent of arrival of twins.

Claus Vissing - a couple of Velcro patches, one for his body and one for his bike in the hope the two remain together more often in the future.

Henning Bager - a boomerang as he always end up back at Peterborough.

Kenneth Bjerre - a pair of boxing gloves following an on-track spat with Lukas Dryml at the end of a home meeting against Eastbourne.

Niels Kristian Iversen - a pack of nappies after he was caught short during a Sky TV meeting.

Mads Korneliussen - a new pits chair to replace the one he smashed in a fit of rage.

Ales Dryml/Karol Zabik - a Danish phrase book to understand the rest of the team.

An auction of speedway memorabilia raised 1,460 for the Speedway Riders' Benevolent Fund.
