FIVE teams decided to quit Peterborough Sunday morning football but there were no shortage of takers to replace them at yesterday's annual meeting.Prince of Wales Feathers, Sporting SKS, Protelo, Racing 252 and Royal Mail all rescinded their member status at the meeting in the Parkway Club.
New boys Gunthorpe Harriers, AFC White Horse, Crowland, Werrington FC, Powerleague Reserves and Village Old Boys were all voted on to replace them.
But the biggest name to return to action are Lord Burghley who quit the top flight at the end of the 2007/08 season following their ejection from the PFA Senior Cup.
After fielding ineligible player, Blackstones' Richard Jones in their 1-0 final win against Netherton, the Stamford side were stripped of the trophy and quit in protest at the decision.
Following a change of management however Burghley have re-entered the fray and will compete in Division One.
AFTER revealing that the Peterborough Sunday Morning League is in rude financial health, the committee announced that clubs will reap the benefits.
All 40 teams competing next season will be given two match balls and a net. The gesture is worth in excess of 1,000 – slightly less than the 1,300 paid out by clubs in fines last season.
AS of next season any club cancelling a fixture within 30 days of the date it is due to be played will be fined 30 with the cost rising to 60 if notice is given within just seven days.
UP and coming city official Damon Pywell was named Referee of the Year by the Peterborough Sunday Morning Football League. Johny Byrne of Fratelli was named Secretary of the Season while League chairman Fred Johnson was handed the Dave Bennett Award for Committee Member of the Year.
