FIVE leading local talents stepped onto the international stage when lining up for the England Under 19 Independent Schools Girls team.
FIVE leading local talents stepped onto the international stage when lining up for the England Under 19 Independent Schools Girls team.Skipper Chelsea Sandford of Peterborough High School was joined by four Stamford High School pupils in the team that suffered a 10-0 defeat at the hands of a touring Australian Schools side. Sandford was also the star performer for the home side in the friendly fixture at Bewdley Town FC in Worcestershire.
Rebecca Palliser lined up alongside Sandford in central defence, Rachel Garratt operated at right back and Lauren Rigby started on the left.
The fourth Stamford player, Hannah Shiels, was introduced as a substitute in midfield.
PETERBOROUGH Diamonds Ladies probably felt like belting out a few bars of a classic Fratellis song after booking their place in the Fenland Ladies League Cup semi-finals.
Their very own 'Chelsea Dagger' did the damage as the city side eased past Chatteris 4-2. Chelsea Sandford proved to be the star turn for Richard Evans' outfit with a hat-trick.
Sandford hauled Diamonds level late in the opening period with a fine individual strike before completing her treble with a couple of quickfire goals soon after the restart.
Chatteris bit back to reduce their arrears but a Joyce Worth effort ensured Diamonds prevailed.
DIAMONDS Under 14s produced a performance hot enough to warm the cockles on a cold day - eventually.
Lauren Johnson and Kerry Camwell both cracked hat-tricks in a 9-1 rout of Gregory Celtic in the Mid-Shires League, although Diamonds were only two goals to the good at the interval.
Emily Johnson, Kashida Johnson and Katie Steward also found the net in what ultimately proved to be a smooth success.
THERE was a weekend perfect 10 from AFC Whittlesey Under 13s.
Andy Powell's side again hit double figures when easing past battling Wisbech St Mary to advance to the second round of the Fenland League Cup.
Elizabeth Steele continued a hot scoring streak with a five-goal haul Annie Posnett weighed in with a hat-trick. Sofia Green and Alyx Miller were the other scorers.

DEEPING Diamonds Under 13s can be found sitting proudly at the summit of the Cambs Girls League after emerging victorious from a top-of-the-table thriller.
Alice MacNicoll stole the show with a hat-trick as Carol Austin's aces saw off previous leaders St Ives 4-3 in a pulsating clash.
Amie Ford gave Deeping an early advantage but they twice had to come from behind before MacNicoll finally settled the issue with time running out.
Sophie Langan received special praise for a fine display in defence despite being the smallest player on the pitch. Langan and tireless midfielder Abbie Steels shared the player-of-the-match accolade.
