Peterborough United have missed out on major transfer target George Moncur.
Moncur today (June 21) signed for Championship side Barnsley. The Tykes and Posh had agreed to pay £500k to Colchester for the 22 year-old.
Moncur had met with new Posh manager Grant McCann, but the lure of Championship rather than League One football predictably won the day.
Posh chairman Darragh MacAnthony tweeted: “I did my best on this one, but couldn’t compete with Championship football/money. Some we win, some we lose. Onwards!”
The size of the Posh bid is seen as a statement of intent by a club desperate to win back their Championship place.
The Peterborough Telegraph has tried to contact director of football Barry Fry, the man in charge of transfer dealings at Posh, for a comment.
