Peterborough United manager Dave Robertson is raring to go ahead of the first match of the League One campaign at Rochdale on Saturday (August 8).

He said: “We are all set for Saturday The squad are chomping at the bit for the game to arrive. We are all excited, prepared and ready to go .

“There is an edge on the game now. The butterflies and excitement have started to kick in and we want to make sure that we start the season well.”

Posh will be hoping to repeat the 1-0 success on their last visit to Spotland and Robertson knows that his players will have to be at their best to come away with the points.

Robertson said:“We know it is going to be a good test against a strong Rochdale team but my players are ready.

“Rochdale have two formations that they can play. We have done our homework on them by watching their last three games and have all the information we need so it’s now about focussing on our own game.”

Rochdale finished last season on the same points tally as Posh and fell two places short of the play-off places.

Robertson said: “Rochdale are like a number of teams in the league that will feel disappointed after just missing out on the play-offs last season. If they can add a bit more to their side then they will be in the promotion mix.”

After competing in nine pre-season friendlies, the Posh boss is confident that his players will perform when the big day arrives.

He said:“We have been working towards this day since day one of pre-season and now it’s up to the players who cross that white line on Saturday to go out and earn their money.

“All the players want to be in the starting eleven and I know that the players who are selected will wear the shirt with pride and do us proud.”

Despite picking up knocks against Cambridge on Saturday Michael Smith and Gabriel Zakuani are expected to be fit for the curtain-raiser. Jack Payne remains a Posh player while potential transfer talks with League Two side Leyton Orient continue.

Harry Beautyman remains on the recovery trail after suffering a thigh strain so will not feature on Saturday.
