Peterborough United manager Dave Robertson has thrown down the gauntlett to his players ahead of a must-win League One match against Walsall at the ABAX Stadium tomorrow (April 6).

Posh are four points adrift of the play-offs following their disappointing defeat at lowly Scunthorpe on Good Friday. Failing to beat the struggling Saddlers would leave Posh a near-impossible task of reaching the top six.

But Robertson has demanded his players make amends for a performance at Glanford Park he branded ‘unacceptable’.

Robertson said: “It’s a massive match for me personally and I hope the players see it that way as well. In fact I will challenge the players to go out and win this game.

“There is no other option for us. We have to win this game and it’s down to the players to pull it off. We will see what they are made of.

“Their character has been great since I took over and I need to see that side of them again.

“It’s not the biggest test odf my managerial career because I will prepare them in exactly the same way as I prepared them for the games that we won.”

Posh have won five and lost three of their eight matches under Robertson, but those three defeats have arrived in the last four games.

Robertson expects to have Jon Taylor back in his squad. The winger missed the Scunthorpe defeat with a knee injury.

It’s hoped that captain Jack Payne and attacking midfielder Marcus Maddison will have recovered from sickness and will also be available.

Centre-back Gaby Zakuani required four stitches in a head wound after the Scunthorpe game, but is expected to be fit tomorrow.

Posh are currently 10th in League One.
