A Peterborough United side including two players with first-team experience in the Football League were knocked out of the FA Youth Cup in the first round at Dereham Town last night (November 5).
Dereham play their first-team football in the Division One of the Ryman League, but they beat a Posh team including first-team squad members Dion-Curtis Henry and Leo Da Silva Lopes 2-1 thanks to a last-minute header from James Cooper.
Posh, who had Ethan Lee sent off for two yellow card offences inside 30 seconds - he was cautioned for a foul and then again for pushing his victim in the chest - had fought back with 10 men to equalise through substitute Cameron Gow just two minutes earlier. Gow headed home a Joe Hood free kick.
Dereham had opened the scoring with the last kick of the first-half with a stunning 25-yard free kick from Cooper.
Posh had plenty of possession, but failed to break down a rugged and well-organised home defence. Posh had 28 shots during the game, 21 of them from outside the penalty area.
Deon Moore twice fired over while Leonardo Da Silva Lopes headed wide and fired high and wide after a deep centre from Ollie Humphreys. Kweku Lukan saw his shot cleared off the line.
In seven minutes of injury time Moore and Brad Maslen-Jones bith came close to nicking the equaliser.
Dereham now go on to play at Mansfield in the second round.
Posh: Henry, Ferrier, Humphrey (sub Gow 74min), Lee, Maslan-Jones, Goode, Hood, Baudry (Sub Lucan 58min), Moore, Da Silva Lopes, Keating. Unused subs: Penfold, Jarvis, Connor.
