Peterborough United played well in defeat at League One leaders Walsall today (December 28).

The Peterborough Telegraph was impressed in particular with central defenders Miles Addison and Michael Bostwick.

Ben Alnwick: Made a fine low save in the first-half and a very good block towards the end of the game. Very solid display 7

Michael Smith: Whipped over a great cross that almost led to Posh scoring first before the break. Generally pretty good going forward and when asked to defend 7

Marcus Maddison: Did well again in his new, unfamiliar position of left-back. Whipped in some quality crosses, forced a strong save with a swerving long shot and defended okay until a couple of walkabout moments late on 7

Miles Addison: Impressive return to action. Looked much fitter than on his last outing and was forming a rock-solid centre-back partnership with Bostwick when his team-mate limped off. Very unlucky to see the first goal deflect off his leg and past Alnwick. Missed a good chance to score at 0-0 8

Michael Bostwick: Outstanding again at the heart of the Posh defence before suffering a muscle injury that forced his susbtitution 8

Chris Forrester: Very bright and busy. Makes numerous interceptions as he reads the game so well. Quality midfielder 7

Martin Samuelsen: Only the odd bright moment. He has some lovely touches and if he adds an extra yard of pace he will be some player 6

Harry Beautyman: Another decent shift from the midfielder. Saw one powerful shot blocked on the line. Sacrificed when Posh fell behind 6

Jon Taylor: In and out of the game. Fired a couple of long shots over the bar. Worked hard 6

Conor Washington: He was a real nuisance, but missed a chance in each half to give Posh the lead, one with a close range header that was well saved and another with a shot that went wide after a brilliant piece of control 7

Lee Angol: A real hard-working shift from the young striker against a very disciplined and well-organised defence 7
