Peterborough United midfielder Erhun Oztumer scored a goal and created another to earn the man-of-the-match accolade from the Peterborough Telegraph tonight (October 20).
Despite Oztumer’s promptings Posh went down 3-2 at Wigan in a League One match at the ABAX Stadium.
Ben Alnwick: Made a couple of decent diving saves, but he had no chance with the goals. He should be having a word with his defenders for leaving him so exposed so oftem 6
Michael Smith: Was given a torrid time by the impressive Wildschut who went past the right-back too easily at times. Also caught in possession a lot and no surprise when he was substituted, even in favour of a striker 5
Callum Elder: Delivered a couple of superb crosses from the left that went unappreciated by team-mates. More of a struggle defensively, but he gets little support from those in front of him 7
Gaby Zakuani: Tried his best to stem the attacking tide, but he never threatened to get on top of mobile forwards or substitute Grant Holt when he came on 6
Ricardo Almeida Santos: A desperately poor 60 minutes before he was taken out of the firing line. Beaten far too easily for the opening goal of the game and his confidence appeared to be shot for his rest of his time on the pitch 4
Michael Bostwick: Was given the runaround at times, but kept battling to the end. Passed poorly which was a big disappointment 5
Chris Forrester: A mixed bag with more bad passes than good ones, but he doesn’t hide. He always wants the ball which is only to be encouraged 6
Jon Taylor: His standards are pretty high right now and his pace and energy often unsettled a cumbersome Wigan defence. Played a key part in an excellent second Posh goal and usually looked a threat in possession 7
Erhun Oztumer: Excellent on the ball showing vision and awareness of others. A goal and an assist more than makes up for his lack of defensive ability. A very encouraging display 8
Conor Washington: The misfiring striker occasionally shows off an immaculate touch and he ran hard throughout this game. Great chances to score in each half of the game were spurned though and goals need to be the name of his game 6
Lee Angol: He’s started to labour a little which is understandable for a young man still learning his trade. Missed the chance of a second-half equaliser and spent too much of the later stages playing far too deep when Posh were desperate for a goal.
Jermaine Anderson: (for Santos, 60 mins)
Souleymane Coulibaly: (for Smith 79 mins)
Kyle Vassell: (for Bostwick, 86 mins)
