The man who steered Bristol City to the League One title last season is the Peterborough Telegraph readers’ choice to replace Graham Westley as Peterborough United manager.

Steve Cotterill (51) was subsequently sacked by City earlier this season and has been out of work since. He’s also a former Cheltenham, Stoke City, Buirnley, Notts County, Portsmouth and Nottingham Forest manager.

Over 1,000 votes were cast in the PT poll on www.peterboroughtoday.co.uk with Cotterill collecting 390 of them (38%).

Second was current Posh caretaker-manager Grant McCann with 285 votes (28%) and third current Leeds manager Steve Evans with 104 votes (10%).

McCann will decide whether or not to apply for the job at the end of the season.

The Peterborough Telegraph contacted Evans, who lives in Wansford, earlier this week. He replied: “My only focus is on winnung games with Leeds United.”

There were 12 managers in our poll. Only 37 people voted for former Posh boss Darren Ferguson, who won three promotions in previous spells with the club, and who is currently fighting a League One relegation battle with Doncaster Rovers.

The full results were: 1 Cotterill 390(38%), 2 McCann 285 (28%), 3 Evans 104 (10%), 4 Karl Robinson 81 (8%), 5 Chris Powell 54 (5%), 6 Darren Ferguson 37 (4%), 7 Uwe Rosler 18 (2%), 8 Chris Wilder 15 (1%), 9 Sean O’Driscoll 12 (1%), 10 Dougie Freedman 11 (1%), 11 Mark Robins 9 (1%), 12 Neil Redfearn 88 (1%).
