Marcus Maddison was Peterborough United’s star man at Rochdale in the League One opener at Spotland today (August 6).
Maddison scored a goal and created another as Posh triumped 3-2 thanks to a 90th-minute header from debutant Gwion Edwards.
Ben Alnwick: Not at all convincing, some strange decisions when faced with crosses, but no chance with Dale goals 5
Hayden White: His pace is mightily impressive and it enabled him to launch a couple of dashing counter attacks. Solid enough defensively 7
Andrew Hughes: Recovered from a traumatic first-half when he received very little help from team-mates to defend much better after the break. No impact going forward which will be a problem in a midfield diamond 5
Jack Baldwin: Might have been sent off at the end of the first-half. Some sketchy moments, but battled away until the end. Won some key headers in the final moments 6
Ryan Tafazolli: Picked up an early injury and departed at 1-1 6
Chris Forrester: Looked classy in possession at times and a cracking goal from distance, Will be a skipper who leads by example 7
Jermaine Anderson: Looked way off the pace and a touch heavy. Offered Hughes very little help in his attempts to contain the lively Andy Cannon and no surprise he was substituted at half-time 5
Leo Da Silva Lopes: Got stronger as the game wore on. Attacked and defended with determination. Great prospect 7
Marcus Maddison: A top-quality finish, an assist and at the heart of most good Posh attacking moves. A real handful for League One defenders 8
Paul Taylor: Missed a great chance to win Posh the match early in the second-half. Busy and constructive without being able to penetrate. Never stopped running and a big nuisance 7
Shaquile Coulthirst: Workrate terrific, but offside too often and his touch lets him down at crucial moments 5
Michael Bostwick: (for Tafazolli, 22 mins). Very strong in the second-half when he’d settled into the match 7
Gwion Edwards: (for Anderson, 46 mins). Livened Posh up considerably, Easy goal, but took up the crucial goal-scoring position 7
Tom Nichols: (for Coulthirst 73 mins)
Mark Tyler: (not used).
Callum Chettle: (not used)
Jerome Binnom-Williams: (not used).
Adil Nabi: (not used).
