Peterborough United chairman Darragh MacAnthony will carry out a ‘root and branch’ review of his club to ensure the good times return to the ABAX Stadium in 2015.

MacAnthony will meet the management staff on Wednesday (December 31) to analyse a modest year by recent Posh standards.

First-team manager Darren Ferguson’s job appears safe for now, although MacAnthony did hint that the fresh four-year deal his manager signed in the summer has a ‘break clause’.

Head of Sports Science and Medicine Chris Burton - the matchday physio - did leave the club today (December 29).

MacAnthony will also be reviewing the contribution of the playing staff after a year in which Posh won 22 and lost 25 of their 57 competitive fixtures as well as the company charged with looking after the playing surface. He will also be asking the club’s landlords, Peterborough City Council, if they are willing to invest in a pitch he has labelled ‘an absolute disgrace’.

Posh pay an annual rent of £500k to PCC, but repair costs take that fee to almost £750k.

MacAnthony outlined his plans through his Twitter account @DMAC102 today. He said: “I will be holding a big meeting with all staff at the training ground on Wednesday morning to review our performance in 2014 and our plans to ensure that 2015 us the kind of year we all want and our fans deserve.

“Trust me I’m working my ass off to ensure it’s a year to remember for the right reasons.

“And it’s not just our staff who will be under review when we meet. It will also be every playing member of our squad top to bottom.

“It’s also fair to say that the company we use for our pitch will also be under review as it’s been an absolute disgrace this season. I shall also be speaking to our landlords who we pay a fortune to about the state of the pitch to ask how they can help and invest in it for the future. I am leaving no stone unturned.

“And to dispel a myth out there about three or four year contracts, I always insert break clauses. I always do what’s best for the football club!”

Sportsturf are the company responsible for pitch maintenance at the ABAX Stadium.
