Recent Peterborough United signing Harry Beautyman insists the pressure will all be on League One leaders Bristol City when the teams clash at Ashton Gate on Tuesday (February 17).
Beautyman made his Posh debut as a substitute after moving from Conference side Welling United when City outclassed Darren Ferguson’s side at the ABAX Stadium in November. City won 3-0 and have been top of the table for virtually the entire season.
But Beautyman, who scored his second Posh goal in a 2-1 win over Rochdale on Saturday (February 14), believes a much closer contest is in the offing,
“There will no pressure on us to get a result,” Beautyman stated. “No-one will expect us to get a result away from home and that could help us.
“Since I’ve been at the club, Bristol are the only team that completely outplayed us. They were very good on the night, but we are confident we can surprise them.
“We are looking forward to the game for sure. These sort of matches are why I wanted to get into the Football League. It’s far better to playing at Bristol City and MK Dons than at Braintree.
“It’s been a big step up for me, but I’m enjoying it. I’m still learning the game at this level, but it was great to get on the scoresheet against Rochdale.
“I’ve scored goals fom midfield all my life and the formation we are playing now should help me get some more. I can get into the penalty area more because I know Jack Payne will sit back in midfield.
“To be honest I should have scored more goals for Peterborough. I missed good chances at Orient and Chesterfield and I should have scored a second goal against Rochdale straight after my first goal.
“But we scored from the corner anyway which was the main thing and a fast start enabled us to clinch three points.
“We played exactly the same way as we had against Gillingham in the previous match, but this time we took our chances. The gaffer reckons that we have won 90 per cent of our games when we score first so it’s important that we start matches really quickly,
“Our gameplan worked well and although Rochdale’s goal set us back a bit, we won quite comfortably in the end.
“It’s hard to keep playing well for 90 minutes on our pitch though as it cuts up pretty badly.”
Beautyman has now scored twice for Posh in 12 appearances, He scored 10 goals for Welling before he made the move to the ABAX Stadium in November.
