BREAKING NEWS: A star of Peterborough United's 1960-61 Fourth Division title winning side passes away

Billy Hails, a member of the all-conquering Peterborough United side of the late 1950s and early 1960s, has passed away at the age of 82.

Hails also managed the club for a brief spell between the tenures of John Barnwell and Peter Morris. He was the club physio when asked to replace Barnwell in November 1978, a post he would return to for many more years.

But it was as a dashing right winger most Posh fans will remember him.

Hails was a star of the Posh team that won the Midland League five times in a row prior to their election to the Football League in 1960. He was an ever present in the Posh team that won the Fourth Division title at the first attempt in the 1960-61 season, scoring 24 goals.

Hails made 94 Football League appearances for Posh, but racked up 318 appearances in total. He scored 28 of his 114 goals for the club in Football League matches.

Only six players have score more goals for Posh in the club’s history.
