Your Posh views: Mixed reaction to the Bennett transfer deal

Peterborough United fans have been having their say on a deadline day that saw a dramatic late club record transfer sale go through and a record transfer bid fail to come off:

Star defender Ryan Bennett was sold to Premier League club Norwich for an undisclosed fee that tops the £2.5 million received for striker Craig Mackail-Smith last summer.

But Posh’s own attempt to draft in Crawley Town duo Kyle McFadzean and Tyrone Barnett for £1.9 million was knocked back by the League promotion chasers.

MIXED feelings for me.

The way he’s playing we probably got him at a good price, but now we only have a month to replace him.

@ShambolicLuke

GOOD news for Ryan and his family, not such great news for Posh. Fantastic player but Fergie will sort it as he’s a great manager. UTP

@julia42posh

HAPPY for Benno and the club for getting the best deal.

Leaving for a Prem side so can’t blame him for that. We are in a much better position than two years ago at this stage of the season yet people still jump straight on Darragh’s back for this.

I trust they will sign a good replacement for him. Keep the faith!

@DaleMeachen

YOU can’t argue with the fact Bennett signing for Norwich is a life-changing move for him and he has done #posh well.

@paul_smedley

VERY disappointed. Why sell our best player with over four years left on his contract without replacing him?

Squad is three players short now.

@MrGaryReed

BIG congratulations to Ryan Bennett on his move to Norwich - big future!

Lucky enough to have trained with a now Premiership footballer!

@LeighOvo1

WE’RE now officially a selling club!

Posh must have known someone would be going yet no replacement was sorted.

Very strange

@andytate69

WHETHER the Benno sale is good or bad depends on the replacement.

The Crawley bids was just another load of hot air coming from London Road.

@ian_gow

BENNO sale was always going to happen as he is class.

Why though did we release Wootton as now have Gaby and that’s it?

@WayneBarber3

GOOD luck to the lad. He deserves it!

I said at the tim that we shouldn’t have sent Scott Wootton back.

@Boomey87

POSH remind me of a Sunday League team at the minute, ringing round on a Saturday night to find a centre-half for Sunday.

@Werrington2

IT’s sensible business but the loan should’ve been for the season as it puts too much pressure on finding a loan of our own that suits.

Would have been nice to get someone in ourselves but ultimately if the right players aren’t available at the right price there is no point.

Some fans think we should be splashing big fees and big wages around. No way. Stability is priority - just look at Pompey’s mess.

@RJerram

DEADLINE day as a whole was very disappointing. I’m sure this is just one day in the grand scheme of things though. I hope so anyway.

@azygratton24

BENNETT sale sounds like a good deal for all involved.

I believe we witnessed the emergence of a future England player.

@srestiano

THAT was a great bit of business by @DMAC102. We can get 3-4 new players with the money and have an even stronger squad for next season.

@leighjabjarvis

FRY says he’s been in talks with clubs for weeks so surely that’s weeks to line up a quality replacement?

Replacing Benno a tough job.

@hogchr22

CRAWLEY bid?

Cynical PR stunt by Fry and Evans in my humble opinion

@martinpilarski

TRULY gutted Benno is off. Wish he was going to Arsenal personally if anywhere!

Class player for Posh. What happens now?

@cookscitroen

CRACKING deal for Posh and Benno. #twitterposh #goodluckbenno

@mikeegee70

JUST feel the Crawley deal was lip service to the fans.

Suppose we will see if we ever bid again for those two.

@jozefthemad

I KNOW we should be happy where we are but Posh fans will probably think we should tried harder to make signings and not sell.

@chesh1_ian

WE sell arguably our best player and most young young talent while our team is on a poor run of form and we have no permanent replacement.

The club could be jeopardising it’s championship status for the sake of a record fee when we surely would have been in a stronger position and Benno would have been worth more if we had waited until the end of the season.

GOOD luck Ryan. All the best for the future and many thanks for your invaluable services to the club.

posh forever

NOTHING has changed. Posh will continue to be a selling club like always. First Mclean, CMS and now Bennett.

If Fry had presided over these transfers as chairman, there would be no comments in support of the decision, particularly with no players coming in the other direction. But as it’s DMAC, that makes it okay?!

This young and hungry policy is a complete waste of time. I guess it’s there to make a handful of people very rich and nothing else.

I’d had my fill of the club, I certainly wont be wasting my money on a season ticket next year, no matter what league we’re in.

GOOD luck too the lad, he`s done us proud.

Maybe the bad record for goals conceded should be aimed at the goalkeeper - ie: Lewis.

The defence have no confidence in him. Maybe Lewis will get the message he is nowhere near as good as he thinks he is (or his agent tells him).

Hear on the grapevine Jones wants out as he`s homesick so looks like next season we`ll have no keeper.

RMS_70

I’M pleased thet Bennett went to a club like Norwich as it will suit him.

I met him a few weeks ago and he is a sound level headed young man who was chatting to me about his time with England UInder 21s and his ambitions. It was very clear that he wanted to play at the top level but it just might be too soon for him.

I for one think it will be easier to replace him than it is proving to replace CMS and Mclean

mangun

GOOD business, both for the club and the player. Had the business not happened it would have been detrimental to both parties.

DonB

WE’LL be okay Rowe can play centre back.

Pottyborough

GOOD luck Benno, Good business by the club. Let’s have a bit of faith.

We now know that if we are able to stay in the Championship, the club is on a sound footing.

MattyWeston

HE had to go at some point but a bit awkward to do it at the last gasp as we can only get a loan player for the crucial end of season matches.

There have been a lot of players leaving and precious little class coming in. We are getting closer and closer to the ‘dead men’ in the relegation zone and a gap is opening up above us. Darren, you need to do something pretty quick. A couple of wins would stabilise things.

BobbyPosh

CONGRATULATIONS Ryan Bennett! I think Norwich will be another stepping stone on his way to the very top. Best of luck.

EVERY transfer window we have these massive bids that - suprise, suprise - come to nothing. Millwall signed Andy Keogh, MK Dons signed Alan Smith. Why can’t we use our contacts to bring in some bargains.

Even daddy Ferguson hasn’t come good. This transfer window has consigned us to a bottom half finish and possibly even a relegation battle.
