Tommy’s eyes are on the title

POSH are second in League One, but that isn’t good enough for Tommy Rowe.

The man re-instated to the starting line-up at left-back for the 3-0 win at Plymouth last Saturday wants a title-winner’s medal at the end of the season.

And Rowe believes a team-spirit he describes as ‘phenomenal’ as well as the ability within the squad makes his dream a realistic one.

Rowe, who is equally at home on the left wing, said: “The team spirit in this team is phenomenal and I am really enjoying my football at the minute.

“We are confident that we can pick up a result at Tranmere tomorrow, particularly after the win at Plymouth.

“We want to be at the top of the league and that is what we are aiming for.

“I am really enjoying playing at left-back and I am quite happy to make this a long-term position for me, but equally I am happy to play anywhere as long as I am in the team.

“The beauty of playing at left-back in this team is that I get to work in tandem with a player like George Boyd, who has so much ability.

“He can work his magic, but it also provides a bit of space for me to go on the overlap.”

Rowe has had to be patient before earning his opportunity in the starting line-up and the same applies to strikers Dave Hibbert and Lee Tomlin.

Both have shown some decent touches when appearing as late substitutes, but being back-up to two in-form and goal-crazy forwards like Aaron Mclean and Craig Mackail-Smith must be frustrating.

Hibbert, who made 40 appearances for Shrewsbury in League Two last season, said: “I was used to playing, and when you’re not playing regularly you do get a little bit frustrated, but you have to be patient and wait for your opportunity.

“And to be fair the manager’s been brilliant and that’s great. We’ve got a close knit squad and everybody knows that at some point in the season they will get the opportunity to do well and continue the good work.”

Hibbert has yet to find the back of the net for Posh in four substitute appearances.
