Tomlin says he’ll cool it
Posh v Brighton match action. Tomlin
LEE Tomlin has promised to clean up his act to prove how much he wants to be a Peterborough United player.
Controversial talent Tomlin has received widespread criticism from fans over his attitude and poor performances in recent matches.
The 23 year-old was then banned from social media site Twitter by manager Darren Ferguson following comments made after a home defeat against Brighton on Saturday. It is understood he agreed to close his account when meeting with senior club figures yesterday (24 January).
And Tomlin has now spoken publicly to declare his love for Posh, to pledge to curb his frustration and to prove his critics wrong.
Tomlin said: “I do get angry quite easily on the pitch and that is because I love football and want to win so much. I also love playing for this club and am very grateful for the opportunity I’ve been given here at Peterborough.
“I come in to training and people always want to know why I’m so happy. I get a buzz out of being here and playing football.
“I have always been dedicated to football and I still am. I want to continue to improve as a footballer.
“I do get frustrated if I don’t receive a lot of the ball. I also get frustrated if I give it away or don’t score and that is evident to anyone who watches Posh matches. Receiving yellow cards also annoys me.
“I have always been told to calm down in football but when a manager gets to know me better, they do accept that side of my game.
“I am my own worst critic though and know I must improve. I am trying hard to curb my frustration”
Tomlin was a major success in his first season at the club when helping to secure promotion from League One following his arrival from non-league Rushden & Diamonds in August 2010.
But he has been a big disappointment at Championship level so far. Half of his six goals this season came in one match against Ipswich.

Wednesday, January 25, 2012 at 07:19 PMSay what you want lee. But you aint good enough. Your tackles are always late. Your passing leaves alot to be desired and the idea is to get ball between the posts and not over or wide of them. You need a bit of bench time or better still a rest cis you look tired. Get on a diet and get fit

Wednesday, January 25, 2012 at 06:25 PMWell, that was unexpected ... but fair play if its genuine and not just an attempt to cool criticism. If he turns it on as he showed in patches last yearearlier this season, it can only be good for the team. Come on Lee the ball is in your court, show us the qualities that DF and DM have seen in you. UP THE POSH...

Wednesday, January 25, 2012 at 01:26 PM@6 - Your choice of the phrase "the proof of the pudding" was somewhat unfortunate given that the article is about Lee Tomlin.

Wednesday, January 25, 2012 at 12:18 PMIn all seriousness, I think that he would be the perfect case for a sports psychiatrist. If he can figure a way to channel all of his drive, enthusiasm and frustration into a positive part of his game he could turn into one hell of a player

Wednesday, January 25, 2012 at 11:38 AMFair enough Tomo - everyone deserves a second chance; let's say this is it. With your arogant and agressive attitude, I don't want you in the club, let alone the team, but like most others, I'd love to see you come good and if you genuinely want to change and improve I wish you well. You will need help and support, and in the longer term maybe you need to think about counselling for anger management; for now, just keep your mouth shut on Saturday if you are fortunate enough to get some pitch time.

Wednesday, January 25, 2012 at 11:13 AMI realise it's standard practice at ET to alter the words of the Posh players to mould them into grammatical sentences (I know this because I often see or hear the actual interview on Posh Player or the BBC website) but I can't imagine the word 'evident' ever coming out of Lee Tomlin's mouth. This does slightly detract from the apparent sincerity of the message. Anyway, I hope he has learnt from his mistakes. The proof of the pudding...

Wednesday, January 25, 2012 at 10:30 AMWhen the whistle blows to start a game, you are part of a team, Lee. That team has a Captain, it ain't you! No matter how long you bellow at him a referee will never change his mind, forget it and move on. Neither you or anyone else will get 'Protection' from a referee because he is in not always in a position to know what is coming. He can only take action on infractions of the laws....all you have to do is accept it and move on. For my part I reckon you have what it takes, let's see it and I wish you all the best.

Wednesday, January 25, 2012 at 10:18 AM"I have always been told to calm down in football" - Hopefully, this time you will heed the advice of the Posh Management and show us your footballing, rather than vocal, skills. Have you thought that getting wound up and trying too hard may be part of the reason your form has dropped? By relaxing your mind your muscles follow suit and your timing improves.
