Queudrue signs for Panionios after turning down Posh
FRENCH defender Franck Queudrue was made an offer he couldn’t refuse by Greek top-flight club Panionios.
Peterborough United had hoped to sign the experienced centre-back after selecting him for a couple of pre-season friendlies this summer, but they were outbid by their Athens-based rivals.
Posh manager Gary Johnson said: “Panionios offered him a great deal, but Franck said he enjoyed his time with us and that he definitely would have come to us if they hadn’t come in late and fast for him.
“He enjoyed his time with us and there is no doubt he would have been a great signing, but the fact that he even came here in the first place proves the ambition we have.
“But Ryan Bennett and Kelvin Langmead were excellent at the back against Nottingham Forest so we do have good players in that position.
“We just have to get Gaby Zakuani fit now. His progress has been a bit slower than we would have hoped for, but he trained yesterday.”
Queudreu was released by Birmingham at the end of last season where he was believed to be earning close to £30,000 per week.
