Posh to sign defender Brisley
Saturday, 1.10pm: Peterborough United are to sign highly-rated Macclesfield centre-back Shaun Brisley this week.
The 21 year-old will move on loan until the end of the season with a view to a permanent transfer in the summer.
The clubs have already agreed a transfer fee.
But Posh boss Darren Ferguson insists Brisley should not be seen as a direct replacement for Norwich City-bound Ryan Bennett.
Ferguson said: “Shaun would not come here to replace Ryan Bennett. I want him to do what Ryan did and that’s improve with us while he’s here.“
Brisley came through the youth ranks at Macclesfield and is highly-regarded by the Cheshire club. He made his debut at 17 and has since amassed 141 appearances for the club.
Brisley has been an ever-present in the Macclesfield team this season, scoring three goals and collecting just two cautions.
He’s known as a footballing defender, comfortable in possession, but the 6ft 2in youngster is also good in the air and strong in the tackle.
Brisley will be the second Posh signing in recent weeks after left-back Matthew Briggs moved to London Road on loan from Premier League Fulham.
What do you think of the signings of Brisley and Briggs for Posh?

Sunday, February 12, 2012 at 09:43 PMBennett came from grimsby and they were lowr leagues. Fergies chased him long enough so fingeres crossed. Thought we had pre contract signed a defender already?

Saturday, February 11, 2012 at 06:34 PMI dont know wether its because ive been on the wine again, but if Brisley is not a direct replacement for Bennett, then who is? How is it that Fergie wants this lad to "improve us" if its from a sedentary posistion? Must return cork to bottle...
