Posh stats: Strike aces are well on target to reach a century

Peterborough United are on course to score 126-and-a-half Football League goals this season!
And that will please chairman Darragh MacAnthony who listed a 100-goal season as one of his ambitions for the 2010-11 campaign.
Posh have scored 11 goals in their four League One matches so far, but it would take a remarkable effort from the ‘Mac Attack’ and their mates to reach 100.
The Posh average in their 50 seasons in the Football League is 65.64, and only one man has been brave enough in the recent past to boast that 100 goals is attainable.
Barry Fry, in his rent-a-quote days, was that man. Typically he made his announcement after Posh had lost for the first time in 12 Third Division matches in October 1997.
After that 2-1 defeat at Hartlepool Posh had scored 31 goals in 13 League matches. The form of Jimmy Quinn and Martin Carruthers had put Posh on course for 100 goals, but manager Fry added another incentive.
The club’s current director of football said: “I’m after 100 goals and 100 points. Teams have achieved one or the other in years gone by, but as far as I’m aware no team has ever done both so it would be a fantastic record to have.
“And we can do it. It’s all about staying clear of injuries and playing to our potential.
“Two of my promotion sides of the past, Dunstable and Barnet, have topped 100 goals so that is definitely achievable.”
Unfortunately for Fry and Posh his team didn’t even come close to either target.
A second half of the season collapse saw Posh finish 10th, having scored just 63 goals in 46 matches, with 67 points!
THE 134 goals scored by Posh in their debut season in the Football League in 1960-61 is a record for any division in the competition.
Posh passed 100 goals in Division Three the following season and scored 93 the season after that. They remain the three highest-scoring seasons in the club’s history.
The fewest goals scored by Posh in a Football League season is 44 in the Third Division relegation season of 1978-79.
They achieved their second lowest total of 46 in the Championship last season.

And they have been pretty accurate with 34 of them on target, again the highest total in the division.
Unsurprisingly Aaron Mclean has had more shots (15) than any other League One player.
Eight have been on target.
