Peterborough United delivered the perfect riposte to their growing army of critics by bagging their first win of 2012 at London Road on Saturday.

Posh eased 12 points clear of the Championship relegation zone following a 3-0 win over struggling Bristol City at London Road.

Two goals from Lee Tomlin and another from David Ball delivered a first victory in eight Championship matches.

Posh boss Darren Ferguson, whose team was watched from the directors box by his father Sir Alex, was naturally delighted with the result and the performance.

Ferguson said: “That was a very good all-round display. I was very happy with the attitude and the football we played as we were very good in and out of possession.

“There had been no sign of tension or nerves in our build-up to the game. We’ve trained well and the players carried out the game-plan to perfection.

“It was a big win for us as doubts had been building up, but not from within the club. Clubs often go on bad runs in the Championship - Brighton went 10 games without winning earlier this season.

“We’ve kept our belief and we picked up our reward against Bristol.

“We started the game really well, and we didn’t really loosen our grip for most of the match.

“I know I’ve been boring, but 50 points has always been the target and four more wins gets us to within one point of that.

“We have another big game at Doncaster on Saturday, but we will go there full of confidence.”

Ferguson praised centre-back Gaby Zakuani for his display after the player decided to delay a season-ending operation on his broken toe.

Ryan Bennett was also impressive in his penultimate start for the club.

He will join Premier League Norwich City after next Saturday’s game when Ferguson will step up his search for a replacement.

“I like the look of one or two centre-backs,” Ferguson added. “So we will just have to wait and see what develops.”

Doncaster are bottom of the Championship after throwing away a two-goal lead and losing 3-2 at Leeds on Saturday.

I suppose so Pete.I have the back to back DVD and if you watch him ,you can see he is at fault for most of the goals.A better keeper wouldnt have had to do much to stop most of the goals that went in against us on the dvd

#6 mangun. If you look at the stats it was only because we had a free scoring forward line for three or four seasons that made Lewis look that good. Any goalkeeper would have looked good in those teams. Just look at the number of goals conceded by him though. We used to win no end of games 3-2, 4-3 etc. You soon noticed when the goals started drying up how poor he really was.

GNAT, I hope Fergie, Fry and MacAnthony don't get as wound up about opinions as you do.

#7 Cavendish. No mate Im not going to take the credit for the dropping of Lewis, the midfield diamond, the Adele song, or moving Sinclair to impact sub. That could have been any of the thousands of fans who go to see them week in week out who were asking for the same thing. Not because they were cynical critics but they could see what was going wrong for the team they love. If you ever read any of my posts, you will find that the vast majority are positive towards the team and Fergie, but I am certainly not to say everything is rosy if it aint. I have been a fan for over thirty yearsthrough thick and thin (mostly thin ) and am a season ticket holder. I will also be heading north on saturday to yet again support the team away from home. There you go mate, theres something that suggests that I may after all be a fan Anyway , Up the Posh, Keep the Faith, Lads excellent in training

Could not agree more with all except your comment cavendish. The team looked far more relaxed with jones in goal. Played better with the formation and battled hard. All fans are critics and without the fans there be no posh. So go do one

I dont think Lewis was a dud.He helped get us promoted and its time for him to move on.It has been money well spent weather he goes for a fee or a free.Bit unfair Pete

What the heck are you on about Swann, talk about two faced. You were having a right go during your stint on BBC Radio Cambs during the Cardiff game........and since Ferguson made the change that anybody with an ounce of sense was recommending then the reason for the improved performance must have been the increased confidence the other players felt in front of the Goalkeeper. Why would we complain about Fergie making a change that we all wanted?...So all in all a totally nonsense piece of claptrap from you...are we surprised?......No

Lets hope flapper Lewis never dons a posh jersey again. Then we can string some decent results together. As he is out of contract at the end of the season we can get a decent sub keeper in. I feel sorry for the club to have wasted 450 K on a dud. Looks like Ajose is the same.
