Posh reaction: Poor Posh have too many non-believers

Posh v Brighton match action

Posh v Brighton match action

DARREN Ferguson admitted his Posh side were poor as they slipped to a 2-1 Championship home defeat at the hands of Brighton on Saturday.

The Posh boss is now demanding his players show more belief in their ability as they attempt to stay clear of the relegation zone.

Ferguson was disappointed with the passing and tempo of his team, especially in a dismal first half.

“That was a very poor day at the office for us,” Ferguson declared. “That was nowhere near as good as we can be or as good as we will need to be.

“We are much better than we showed here. Our midfielders passed the ball very badly, the tempo to our play was all wrong and we lost our way very quickly.

“They players need to show more belief in themselves and in the way we play. We want to keep the ball for as long as possible, but in this game we were rushing passes and trying passes that were just too difficult.

“Barcelona never change the way they play when they are losing and nor should we. If we keep the ball for long periods the chances to score will come so we don’t need to force the play all the time.

“It’s also a fact that the opposition can’t score if we have the ball, but Brighton did a job on us and they did it very well.

“They just sat deep and waited for us to make mistakes and we obliged them too often. It was simply a very disappointing performance.”

Posh were not helped by the absence of team talisman George Boyd who was ruled out because of a blood infection. Boyd spent time last week in hospital, a fact covered up by the club.

Ferguson added: “George was in a bad way last Monday so we had to get him to hospital. He was never going to play and we did well to keep that quiet, but he will be okay for next week.

“I’ve heard a lot of nonsense from people about George’s form, but when he doesn’t play we miss him.”

What did you think of Posh’s performance?

The two Brighton goals were the softest seen at London Road for many a moon. Our keeper did not follow the flight of the ball, or assess the trajectory, he simply watched it enter the net. That was goal number one....seen down Celta road regularly. Their second was miss timed and fumbled by our keeper, who merely diverted it into the net, he should have swallowed it.

Two Posh players from Premiership clubs, brought about our goal. Ball saw Tunnicliffe on the right, Ball slipped his marker, Tunny saw it and immediately passed to him, it was a goal worthy of any premiership club.
