Posh preview: We’re out to make amends says Grant
Posh v Brighton match action. McCann
Peterborough United are determined to erase the memory of their most disappointing display of the season at the first attempt against Brighton on Saturday (3pm).
Skipper Grant McCann is back from injury to lead the side to three points against Portsmouth at London Road seven days after the club’s 2-1 home defeat by Brighton.
That result and performance angered Posh boss Darren Ferguson, but McCann believes that fury and frustration will be channelled in a positive way against a Pompey side stricken by financial problems.
McCann said: “The manager was right to be angry, but what had to be said was said early in the week and I have no doubt he will get a positive reaction from the players.
“We didn’t play well last week and yet we almost picked up a point. We want to make amends tomorrow.
“It’s been a strange few weeks. We had a run of five games without losing while I was out without playing particularly well.
“It’s good that we have shown we can dig out results and now that we have lost a couple of games, we need to show we can bounce back.
“We are capable of stringing two or three wins together and we’re focused only on getting three points tomorrow.
“Portsmouth have had some problems off the field, but I don’t think players worry too much about that.
“The good thing about the last couple of weeks from our point of view is that we haven’t conceded any ground to the bottom three.
“We are still nine points clear of them, but none of the players are looking down the table anyway.”
McCann was a half-time substitute against Brighton. That was his first appearance since damaging medial ligaments at Leicester at December.
“I felt off the pace for the first 10 minutes,” McCann admitted. “But as the game wore on I felt better and better.
“I hadn’t trained with the first team much, but I’ve had a good week’s training with no reaction so I’m raring to go tomorrow.
“I’m confident I can do 90 minutes without any problem.”

Friday, January 27, 2012 at 04:29 PMBetter tell Lewis then. After all, it was he that cost us the game last Saturday as usual. He looks very tired as well. Better wake Jones up. Surely he's had a long enough kip by now.
