Posh preview: Ball’s sure the goals will soon be flowing

DAVID Ball insists the Posh strikers will soon find their shooting boots.
Posh have scored just once in their last four competitive matches and just six times in their last nine games. It’s a far cry from the heady days of early-season when Posh were seemingly scoring for fun.
Ball is one of those charged with finding a solution to the problem and a forward who has spent two spells on loan with League One strugglers Rochdale is confident he can, with a lot of help from his team-mates of course.
Ball, who is pushing for a starting place in Saturday’s Championship clash at Burnley, said: “Confidence is the key with strikers. That’s why so many times when a striker scores once, they go on a little run of goals.
“That’s what will happen here I’m sure. It’s not as though we’ve been getting that many chances anyway.
“We’ve been playing really well up until the edge of the opposition penalty area lately, but then we lose our patience and try and thread the impossible ball through.
“We haven’t got the biggest strikers though so we have to play a certain way and I’m sure it will come right soon though. There are too many good players for us to struggle for goals for much longer.
“Obviously I want to be involved as much as possible. When I came back from Rochdale after the second loan spell I had a really good chat with the manager.
“He said he should have played me when I came back after the first spell, but that’s all forgotten now. We both decided I should stay here now and fight for my place.
“That’s all I’ve ever wanted to be honest because I love being at this club. I’m giving 100 per cent whether I’m in the gym or on the training pitch and I’m ready to step up if the manager needs me.”
Ball has some inside knowledge of tomorrow’s opponents. In the Burnley squad tomorrow will be Kieran Trippier and Ben Mee, two defenders who were at Manchester City as youngsters alongside Ball.
“Many members of my family are also still living in the area,” Ball added. “I could have 20 friends and family at the game tomorrow.
“I know some of the Burnley squad and I know they are a team that likes to play good football like us so it should be a decent game.”
DESPITE a lack of goals lately, Posh are still the joint third highest scoring team in the Championship

Friday, February 3, 2012 at 09:06 PMThe trouble is, last week Paul Taylor tried that tactic. He must have shot from outside the box half a dozen times, and missed on all save one occasion, I think. He certainly didn't force the goalkeeper to make a save of any consequence. Then people criticise him for not passing....
