Wednesday, 4.40pm: Peterborough United have today (January 9) comfirmed the loan signings of Manchester United players Davide Petrucci and Scott Wootton.
Centre-back Wootton (21) has signed until the end of the season, while midfielder Petrucci (21) has signed initially for a month, but Posh expect to extend the loan if it proves successful.
Petrucci was signed by United from Italian Serie A side Roma four years ago. He was a prolific scorer in the United Academy sides before suffering an injury which slowed his progress.
He has since returned to full fitness and has become a star in United’s reserve team. Petrucci was included in United’s first-team squad for a Premier League game against Spurs, but has yet to appear for the senior side.
Wootton, who watched Posh knock Aston Villa out of the FA Youth Cup last night, is already a familiar face to Posh fans having spent time on loan at London Road last season. Wootton was reportedly wanted by Championship rivals Birmingham, Blackburn and Bristol City.
Wootton played 14 times for Posh last season, but struggled to hold down a regular first team place. He’s made four appearances for the United first team this season.
Wootton also spent time on loan at Nottingham Forest last season. Posh play Forest in a Championship fixture at the City ground this Saturday (January 12).
Posh boss Darren Ferguson said: “Davide is a very good footballer. This is his first loan move which is why it is only for a month at first, but if it works out for both parties, I’m sure we will be able to extend it.
“Scott was very unlucky last season when he was with us as Ryan Bennett and Gaby Zakuani were in such good form. I see him as a regular starter now.”
