Posh set to enter loan transfer market

Striker Britt Assombalonga sould soon have help as Posh prepare to enter the loan transfer market.

Peterborough United chairman Darragh MacAnthony has hinted that his club will soon be trying to bolster their squad with loan signings.

The 3-1 home defeat by League One leaders Leyton Orient on Saturday (November 2) appears to have jolted the Posh management team into action.

Third-placed Posh have scored just three goals in their last five League matches and have slipped six points behind Orient.

Posh will also be six points behind second-placed Wolves if they win at Carlisle tomorrow (November 5).

MacAnthony labelled the weekend Posh display as ‘disgraceful’ on Twitter within minutes of the final whistle, but 24 hours later he was back to his normal optimistic self.

He said: “Great chat with the gaffer. We both know what needs addressing to bring pace, aggressiveness and goals back into our games - and how to get back to winning matches.”

When a Posh fan asked MacAnthony whether or not that meant a dabble in the loan market, the chairman replied: “It would be rude not to.”

Forwards are the most likely loan targets for Posh who have cover in all other departments.

Posh have struggled in attack since play-maker Lee Tomlin picked up an ankle injury towards the end of September.

His recent return to action at Colchester was ruined by a red card for violent conduct.

Tomlin served the first of a three-match ban at the weekend, but his suspension could be increased as he has now been charged with misconduct in relation to an incident as he left the field.

Record signing Britt Assombalonga scored eight goals in his first 10 Posh appearances, but has now not scored in his last nine games.

Assombalonga has not scored a single goal in Tomlin’s absence.
