POSH PLAYER VERDICTS: The Man from the Times loved Peterborough United's Chris Forrester

Midfielder Martin Samuelsen delivered a dazzling display of skill, while striker Lee Angol ran himself into the ground as Posh chased a cup shock.

Other players were sensetaional as well which is reflected in the marks awarded by the Peterborough Telegraph. Irish midfielder Chris Forrester even won praise from legendary Times football writer Henry Winter.

Ben Alnwick: Suffered a couple of jittery moments, but hardly had to make a difficult save in two hours of football. Didn’t get close to any of the West Brom penalties, but can’t blame him for that 6

Jack Baldwin: Performed very solidly at right-back against unpopular, yet gifted, West Brom winger James McClean. Generally timed his tackles well, although it would have been tough for a regular full-back to keep McClean for the whole match 7

Andrew Fox: Won selection as a left-back ahead of two specialists in that position. That was a surprise, but he did a sterling job, often popping up in very advanced positions. Solid defensively and an encouraging effort all-round 7

Michael Bostwick: He mis-timed the odd aerial challenge and tackle, but he made some superb blocks in another display that cemented his place as one of the first names on the team-sheet every week. He’s a stand-out player in a very good side 8

Gaby Zakuani: Staggering to think he had played 15 minutes of competitive football in the previous three months. A colossus at the back with some brave blocks, superb interceptions and complete domination of the disappointing Salomon Rondon. Outstanding display 9

Harry Beautyman: Looked a different player compared to the first game between the sides. Ran his heart out until his late substitution and enjoyed some decent moments on the ball. Played with pleasing confidence 7

Chris Forrester: Crikey, what a talent Posh have unearthed. Even the man from the Times was singing the young Irish midfielder’s praises. Covered a huge amount of ground, refused to yield to obvious tiredness and kept driving his team forward with his accurate passing. Tremendous effort 9

Jon Taylor: His speed, direct running and sheer enthusiasm troubled the Premier League side all night. Played completely without fear and deserved a goal to add to his strike in the first game, albeit helped by a generous deflection 8

Martin Samuelsen: Caught the eye with some fabulous skill that oftenb made the likes of McClean and Gardner look like novice midfielders. His most dangerous opponent was a weak referee who let multiple fouls on the fleet-footed playmaker pass without the proper sanction. If he could just time the final ball or shot better he would be unstoppable. Deserved man-of-the-match and his poor penalty shouldn’t in any way detract from a high-class display 9

Lee Angol: Phenomenal shift from the young striker. Chased, harried and got stuck into some experienced defenders who were never allowed to settle. Out on his feet by the end which no doubt contributed to his weak penalty. Again judge him on his 120 minutes rather than one disappointing moment 8

Shaq Coulthirst: He’s full of energy and pace. He needs to work out the best time to shoot because he often delays or hurries. He’s made a very promising start to his Posh career though 7
