My Posh Day: Warmed up by a gorgeous WPC!
Posh fans Adam Sibley and Dave Richardson watch Posh draw 1-1 atgainst Burnley at Turf Moor on Saturday, 4 February, 2012:
CURRENT FORM: I’ve been following Posh ever since my parents moved me up here in the early 90s and for last three years have had a season ticket after being priced out by the wealthy Russian at Chelsea.
My travelling companion David Richardson is also a season ticket holder and has been follwing Posh since the 70s. We manage to get in about 75 per cent of away games and the longer the journey the more interested we are!
CURRENT FORM: David, or Rico as he is more commonly known, picks me up in a taxi at 8.20am outside Ladbrokes in Hampton which luckily doesn’t open until 9 otherwise I’d have lost 20 quid on some obscene virtual horse race or roulette.
We head to the train station and catch the 8.50am to Leeds.
Posh have an impressive turnout at the station for this trip up north which consists of some old faces we know from our years of following the team.
The train to Leeds is on time which pleases us as that means we have half an hour to get some drinks in the White Rose at Leeds station before catching our two-carriage rattler to Burnley.
We arrive at Burnley just before noon to be greeted by freezing cold winds, snow and lots of hills - just what we was expecting!
We find the first boozer (Inn on the Wharf) and warm ourselves up with a couple of drinks which don’t take long to go down.
From there we head to a Weatherspoons which, as with all Weatherspoons on a Saturday, is full of families from shameless, old geezers who look like they live there and football lads getting cheap ale.
We have another couple in there before heading to Walkabout, where it is colder inside than outside, for our last drink before the game.
We head to the ground and the snow has really settled in now with our mate ‘Licko’, who we met in the first pub, struggling to stand up (not sure if that is due to drink or slippery shoes).
HALF-TIME REPORT: Posh flew out of the blocks and fully deserved the 1-0 lead.
We are slightly disappointed that it’s only one to be honest as David Ball was unlucky not to add a second, instead hitting the post.
The potato and meat pie is enjoyed more by Rico than me and we are very optimistic for the second half.
ATMOSPHERE: Posh fans are in fine voice today and thankfully that drum isn’t here which makes it a thousand times better.
We stand during the whole game mainly as the seats look like they might collapse if we sit on them.
This is probably the worst stand I’ve been in since the Baseball Ground at Derby along with the main stand at London Road of course.
It’s 2012 so who has wooden seats these days?
FULL_TIME REPORT: The second half doesn’t disappoint us as Posh look all at sea and are pummelled for 45 minutes - the tell tale sign being that their half we are defending has green grass and the half we are attacking is white and covered in snow!
Posh put up a brave fight at the back but on 86 minutes Burnley equalise which they fully deserve. We are happy with the draw as we didn’t have a shot in the second half, but it’s a shame we couldn’t hold out five minutes longer as this would have been a massive thee points.
It pains me to say it, and my mate Hair won’t talk to me for weeks, but we both agree Joe Lewis is man-of-the-match.
Swanny’s report: Burnley 1, Posh 1 - Hot Posh denied at the death
JOURNEY HOME: We head back to the station in conditions I’ve never seen as bad in my life.
It’s raining ice and we are soaked by the time we get on the train. We are soon warmed up by a gorgeous WPC on the train and spend the journey to Leeds trying to chat her up, unsuccessfully of course.
At Leeds we stock up with McDonalds and a bottle of vodka and head back to Peterborough glad that we took the train as conditions for driving didn’t sound too good.
We check our twitter on the way home and see that everyone who drove is still stuck in Burnley.
