Millers make merry at London Road

Lee Tomlin (right) was on target for Posh Reserves against Rotherham

Lee Tomlin (right) was on target for Posh Reserves against Rotherham

Posh Reserves report: An experienced Peterborough United side went down 4-2 to Rotherham in a reserve team friendly at London Road today (October 9).

Lee Tomlin shot Posh in front in the first-half, but The Millers struck four times before Nathaniel Mendez-Laing claimed a late consolation goal.

The match formed the latest step on the long road to recovery for Posh striker Dave Hibbert who hasn’t played a first-team game since fracturing his kneecap in November 2010.

Hibbert did well in his 70 minutes on the pitch. It was his shot that was parried into Tomlin’s path for the opening goal.

Posh club captain Gaby Zakuani missed the match because of illness, while striker Jonson Clarke-Harris was pressed into service as a left-back following the departure of Scott Griffiths to Plymouth.

Clarke-Harris played well and was unfortunate to head into his own net to give Rotherham a 3-1 lead. Lee Frecklington also played well in midfield for Posh.

Posh: Day, Butt, Richens, Grant (sub Hendry 65 mins), Clarke-Harris, Frecklington, Newell, Tomlin, Swanson, Mendez-Laing, Hibbert (sub Anderson 72 mins). Unused subs: Wood, Coulson.
