Match day update: Watford 0 Posh 1

Match report: Dickinson strike earns Posh first away win

A spectacular strike from Liam Dickinson delivered the first away win of the season for Posh.

Dickinson lobbed Scott Loach from 30 yards after the home ‘keeper had raced to the edge of his own area to thwart Mark Little.

And it was no more than Posh deserved as Aaron Mclean and Dickinson also struck the woodwork.

Watford exerted heavy late pressure, but Posh defended superbly to complete a Championship ‘double’ over The Hornets.

Posh were desperately unlucky not to be in front at half-time at Vicarage Road.

Only a superb double save from home ‘keeper Scott Loach denied Craig Mackail-Smith and then Liam Dickinson a goal in the 12th minute.

And in the last minute of the half Aaron Mclean swivelled and struck a 20-yarder against the base of a post.

Watford were booed off ater 45 minutes when they failed to force Joe Lewis into a single save.

Sergio Torres started the first Championship match of his career at Watford.

The Argentinian took his place in a three-man Posh midfield alongside Charlie Lee and Tommy Rowe.

Scott Griffiths returned at left-back after recovering from a back injury.

Posh: Lewis, Little, Griffiths, Zakuani, Morgan, Lee, Torres, Rowe, Mackail-Smith, Dickinson, Mclean. Subs: McKeown, Day, Crook, Green, Simpson, Geohaghon, Reid.
