Kearns returns and that’s good news for many

THAT search party for Posh midfielder Danny Kearns can be called off. He was back in the first-team squad on Saturday after enjoying his first break from football in over a year.
The 20 year-old Irishman was a breath of fresh air when breaking into the Posh starting line-up in the middle of December, but after four matches he disappeared from the squad altogether.
It was a disappointment to many Posh fans, but they can rest assured he’s back and in fine fettle. Kearns had been on the go since starting pre-season training with his former club Dundalk on January 10 last year and he was starting to feel the pace,
Kearns said: “I’ve been very happy with the progress I’ve made since coming over, but I hadn’t had a break in over a year and it has caught up on me.
“I played a lot of games last year and to then come here and experience a big step up in tempo in training and in matches has meant it’s been a tough 12 months.
“I think I’ve adapted to it well though. Obviously, the day-to-day stuff will help me in the long run.
“Next season will be a big one for me. It will be good to have a rest in the summer, maybe even go on holiday and chill out for a week or two, before we come back for pre-season.
“It was all about coming in this season, finding my feet and taking it game-by-game and getting my chance.
“I feel when I’ve got my chance I’ve done well and hopefully I can hit the ground running when we get back for pre-season.
“I’ve settled in brilliantly. Everything has been fine so far. Overall, I’ve been delighted with how my time has gone here.
“Obviously, I’d been playing a bit before my break and getting a bit more game-time which has helped. Now I’m just hoping to get back into the side for the run-in to this season.
“It’s getting to that stage of the season now where we need to start picking up points so it’s a massive challenge for us.”
Kearns made his debut just three weeks after signing a three-year deal with Posh at West Ham, the club he once joined as a 16 year-old.
And the Republic of Ireland Under 21 international has returned in time to face the Hammers in front of a sell-out crowd at London Road this Saturday.
“I didn’t want to come here and just be on the fringes,” Kearns added. “I didn’t just want to make the bench now and again and spend all my time playing reserve games.
“I knew I wasn’t going to come and walk straight into the team, because when I got here the boys were doing well and playing well, and they were picking up results.”
