FANS’ favourite Gaby Zakuani’s delivered his own man-of-the-match award at Turf Moor on Saturday and it went to Posh goalkeeper Joe Lewis.

Lewis, who has been under-fire from Posh fans recently, delivered a faultless display in a creditable 1-1 draw at Championship play-off chasers Burnley.

He was only beaten by an 88th equaliser from Jay Rodriguez, despite constant second-half pressure from the home side.

Zakuani said: “Joe was awesome. They had a lot of shots and the ones we didn’t block in front of him, he kept out brilliantly.

“Joe is a strong character. He doesn’t worry about what people are saying about him and the other players all know his worth.

“He’s not just a good shot-stopper, he must be the best kicking goalkeeper I’ve ever seen and it’s great to know that if we pass it back to him he will relieve the pressure with a big clearance.

“We defended well in the second half when they put us under a lot of pressure. A couple of years ago we might have folded against a good side in those conditions, but we are a lot more resolute now.

“We were the better side in the first-half and it was just a shame we couldn’t take our chances to get more than one goal ahead.

“But I suppose a draw was a fair result as they looked a good side in the second-half. Their wide players were very dangerous so we should take heart from the draw.

“The manager wasn’t happy straight after the game, but by the time we got back on the team bus I think everyone was content with a point, especially in those conditions.

“It was horrible out there and just as horrible on the way home. I got back into my house just before 1am!”

It’s been a good few days for Zakuani who was a double-winner at The Evening Telegraph Sports Awards ceremony on Friday night.

Zakuani was voted Sports Personality of the Year as well as Footballer of the Year. He will formally receive his trophies ahead of Saturday’s sell-out Championship fixture with West Ham at London Road.

Many congrats to Joe Lewis. A match without an error which costed a goal. That should guarantee his place for the next 5 years, especially if Paul Jones is still tired.

Interesting to see the Lewis haters haven't commented yet, typical.

An 88th equaliser? Really? Blimey, I must have missed the other 174 goals.
