Holloway loses interest in Boyd

Crystal Palace manager Ian Holloway has confirmed he made a tentative enquiry for transfer-listed Peterborough United winger George Boyd.

But Holloway has been put off by the fee Posh are demanding for a player who could leave London Road for nothing when his contract expires at the end of the current campaign.

Holloway said: “I asked the question to Peterborough, but what they wanted wasn’t right so he won’t be coming. It was only a tentative enquiry anyway.”

It’s a move that would have appealed to Boyd as he is a Palace fan.

Posh chairman Darragh MacAnthony admitted earlier in the week that he had rejected a bid from Nottingham Forest, while Reading, Palace and Millwall had also made enquiries for the 27 year-old.

MacAntony said he would sell Boyd if the price was right, but that he is also happy for him to see out his contract at London Road. The Posh chairman had previously stated that staying in the Championship is worth £6 million to Posh and that Boyd would obviously help with that aim.
