CAPTAIN Grant McCann has called on Posh fans to recreate the ‘best atmosphere I’ve ever experienced at London Road’ when Championship League leaders West Ham arrive in the city tomorrow.

The performance of the Posh fans in the League One play-off semi-final against MK Dons last season still sends a shiver down McCann’s spine.

He insists the backing of the fans played a huge part in Posh winning that match and moving a step nearer to promotion to the Championship.

“It was a brilliant atmosphere when Mk Dons played here that night,” McCann, who started his professional career at West Ham, stated. “It’s the best I’ve ever experienced at the club.

“London Road was rocking that night and there’s no doubt the fans helped us get through.

“And there will be even more in the ground tomorrow so hopefully there will be even more noise. It’s certainly a massive game and the players are all looking forward to it.

“It’s obviously a big game for me having started out at West Ham. I have loads of family and friends coming over from Northern Ireland for the match so I hope it’s on.

“I also hope we win and that I score. That would be a dream come true.”

McCann is slowly returning to full fitness after a six-week spell on the sidelines with a knee injury. He is confident Posh will enjoy a better February after a dismal January of one draw and four defeats.

Posh have yet to win in 2012, but McCann believes that run will soon come to an end, even though the next two matches are against table-topping West Ham and third-placed Cardiff.

McCann added: “We had a good start to the month with the draw at Burnley last week.

“We played well there and if we had scored the second goal we deserved in the first-half we would have won.

“Burnley did come at us strongly in the second-half, but we defended well and at the end of the day it was a useful point.

“We’ve all forgotten about January and we’re all confident we can do much better this month.

“We played well at West Ham earlier in the season and only lost to a very soft penalty so there’s no reason we can’t get a result against them.

“We are in a bit of a no-man’s land in the table. We’re 10 points clear of the bottom three, but 13 points off the play-offs.

“I still believe we should be nearer the top six than bottom three.”
