Ferguson: Posh fans should be happy with our season

Posh v Brighton match action. Ferguson

Peterborough United boss Darren Ferguson has urged fans to take a more realistic view of his team’s progress this season.

Posh face Burnley at Turf Moor in the Championship on Saturday (3pm) seeking their first win of 2012 amid loud criticism of their recent performances.

Posh have lost their last three league matches, scoring just one goal, but they remain nine points clear of the relegation zone with a vastly superior goal difference to the bottom three.

Ferguson said: “If I was a fan looking in from the outside at the start of the season I’d have definitely settled for 33 points with 18 matches to go.

“Realistically how many fans would have expected us to do any better?

“In the last 12 months we have sold two top strikers for decent money and still won a promotion and got into a decent position in the Championship.

“We are on a poor run, but it’s not a question of changing systems or players, it’s a question of getting back to the level of performance we were delivering before Christmas.

“We know we can win games at this level, although we face a tough one tomorrow.

“I watched Burnley win at Forest on Tuesday and they gave as good a performance as I have seen from a Championship team.

“Like us, they are young and athletic and they work hard, but we go up there believing we can get a positive result.”

Posh have no fresh injury worries. Under-fire keeper Joe Lewis will remain in goal, while young Irish midfielder Danny Kearns returns to the squad after a period of rest.

@27 - Not Werrington? @28 - What do you call a suitable replacement? I won't disagree with the Fry statement but Rooster's doing fine.

26 most of the posts on here are extremly valid. There is too much spin from the manangement ,too many players get in the team whose performances don't merit it ,no proper plan B and very bad transfer business of late, not so much the selling of players but as not getting any suitable replacements in. To get a proper business plan in place we certainly need Fry to go and an experienced assistant manager brought in .

@23 & 24 - Yes there has been a lot lot worse than the current blip & my aim for us this season was & still is 21st. Anything better than that is a bonus & this season is nothing compared to the last time in this division, which in itself was a marked improvement on the time when Jackie Gallagher & co were gracing the London Road turf - sorry, mud bath................@25 do you & Quail share the same ciggarettes?

#23 i have bee supporting Posh for 50 plus years and have seen much worse than our current position, i fully agree with your comments, most people only comment when the going gets tough, with our poor gates we have to sell to survive, like you i will continue to support posh.

same old same old, what a bunch of whingers we have as posh fans.been supporting posh for over 34 years and if some of you do not think this is progress then you need to come into the real world.of course we will sell players every club will but especially small clubs like us,even when the management try to put a positive swing to things people still moan yes we are in a bad patch and yes most of us would probably like to see different players in but just give it a rest some of you really are making yourselves look silly by continually sprouting the same old line, you are not going to change it because you are not close enough to know all the resons as to why certain players are playing.i wonder how many of you actually go every week or do you long for a bad result just to say your not going anymore.come on posh i have been comming the last 34 years and with good luck will do 34 more.

@ OddJob, I don't think anyone is moaning about Fergies progress at all with whatever resources we have, he's done tremendous for us and still is to a point. If we looked at the attendances only, we perhaps would be in the Conference. It was Fergie who spouted in the press about October time how we may get in the play offs we're playing so well and most fans seeing we hadn't been outplayed by anyone could see it also. What most people see is the consistant picking of players recently that are not playing well and yet get in the team not on merit but on other deciding factors. By Fergies own admission Jones could not be blamed for one goal he conceded but then drops him cus he's tired and we've never seen him again. You may look into the past but thats gone mate, its todays football we are concerned about and how it seems to be going wrong at the moment when perhaps Fergie does nothing different from the previous weeks when we've looked so poor. Apparently he has a plan B but if its going to 442 then god help us as when he done that last time I don't think we got over the half way line. UTP

Latest news from Posh is that training this week has gone amazingly well. So that'll be 3 points to Burnley then.
