Ferguson: Bennett will be a hit at Norwich

DARREN Ferguson is confident young centre-back Ryan Bennett will take the Premier League in his stride.
Bennett was sold to Norwich City on transfer deadline day earlier this week for a fee believed to be in the region of £3 million.
The 21 year-old will remain on loan at London Road for a month before joining up with the team currently 11th in the Premier League.
And Posh boss Ferguson insists a player he brought to the club for just £500,000 will thrive against the likes of Robin Van Persie, Sergio Aguero and Wayne Rooney.
Ferguson, who hinted he would try and sign an experienced replacement for Bennett, said: “It’s a great opportunity for Ryan and I am convinced he’ll be a hit. He’s only 21 so he will only get better.
“He’s composed on the ball, he’s brave, he’s good in the air and I’m not surprised he’s made it into the Premier League already.
“In fact he wasn’t in the Posh team when I came back a year ago, so he owes me!
“In an ideal world we would have kept Ryan here until the end of the season, but they want him in their squad straight away so we’ve done well to get him back for a month.
“He can play in the next five matches for us and I’m sure he will continue to play as well as he has all season. We can spend that time looking for his replacement.
“Scott Wootton would have been ideal, but he left us because we didn’t anticipate Ryan leaving, so I may look for a more experienced one at this stage of the season.
“It’s good of Norwich to let us keep Ryan for a bit and they’ve also offered us a couple of players on loan which I’m considering.”
Ferguson also stated that Posh did not offer as much as the reported £1.9 million for Crawley pair, striker Tyrone Barnett and centre-back Kyle McFadzean, on transfer deadline day, but admitted they were both targets.
He declined to name the player Posh have signed on a pre-contract and who will move to London Road in June ‘as it would be unfair on the player and his current club’.
n SOURCES in Swansea claim the Welsh club had a bid of £3 million plus £1.5 million worth of add-ons for Bennett accepted on transfer deadline day.
The same source suggested Norwich had bid £3.5 million with £2 million worth of add-ons.
Bennett was on his way to Swansea when Norwich came in with their better offer.

Friday, February 3, 2012 at 11:13 PMThe youth policy the Peterborough a going to go for once the Elite Player Performance Plan is adopted is grade B. Which is the second highest thats available. And for a club of our size its very encouraging that they are. so they can get the pick of all the local youngsters

Friday, February 3, 2012 at 03:22 PMI think that most supporters hope the lad will go on to be successful elsewhere - But that's just it Mr Fergusson, it's ELSEWHERE and not here, just like a number of others who've chosen to leave for further success ELSEWHERE. Isn't it time to negotiate the contracts of these lower league signings from a position of strength rather than from the rantings of a fat 'Barrow boy' who, it would seem is being given the runaround by players agents? It seems every agent is wise to what can be achieved when negotiating for their player by signing for a selling club like Peterborough United. Maybe it's time to look into a different method of obtaining good young players and the truth of how committed Mr McAnthony is to the club will be when we are notified of what type of youth policy will be run after the Elite Player Performance Plan is adopted.
