Record signing Britt Assombalonga warmed up for his dream Peterborough United debut with a night of comedy.
The striker grabbed the only goal of the game as Posh made a successful start to the League One season with a 1-0 victory over Swindon Town at London Road yesterday (August 3).
Assombalonga thumped an emphatic ninth-minute strike past Swindon keeper Wes Foderingham after holding off a defender to reach a huge Michael Bostwick clearance.
He had warmed up for his match-winning performance in front of the TV and it worked a treat.
Assombalonga said: “I spoke to my Dad the night before and he told me to try not to think about the match too much.
“I just concentrated on relaxing and watched a few episodes of Entourage. I guess it worked well for me.
“I couldn’t ask for more than scoring the winner on my debut for my new club.
“I just gambled on the ball coming my way and I only had one thing on my mind.
“I knew I had to hit quickly before the Swindon keeper got too far out.
“The ball bounced and sat up nicely, and that made my mind up to take it first time.
“I thought I might have been offside, but I just ran off in celebration hoping for the best and thankfully the flag didn’t go up.
“We are a team who pride ourselves on playing good football, but there is nothing wrong with going more direct at times.
“It worked well for us yesterday and it was great to get the winner on my debut.
“I got a brilliant reception from the fans and it was nice to score for them and the team.
“I don’t set myself targets but like any striker I want to be scoring goals.”
It wasn’t the first time Assombalonga has bagged a debut goal in his blossoming career.
He also struck in his outing when on loan at non-league side Braintree in February 2012.
