Championship fixtures 2012-13: Posh start with derby date

Darren Ferguson will be aiming to make a good start to the next season.

Darren Ferguson will be aiming to make a good start to the next season.

Posh will launch the new Championship season with a mouth-watering derby trip to Leicester City.

The clash at the King Power Stadium on Saturday, August 18 marks the start of the club’s fifth season in the second tier of English football.

Big-spending Leicester are the bookmakers’ favourites for the Championship title next season.

Posh’s first home outing comes three days later when hosting Millwall on August 21 before they entertain Leeds on August 25 and they then visit Birmingham City on September 1.

Posh boss Darren Ferguson said: “Making a good start to last season proved to be key to keeping ourselves out of trouble and we’ll be looking to do the same thing again.

“We know that Leicester are one of the big teams at this level who have already spent money but we will go there with no fear.

“We took four points from them last season so that will give us confidence.”

Another tasty trip comes on Boxing Day when Posh go to relegated Wolves while they will see in 2013 by playing host to Barnsley at London Road on New Year’s Day.

The season will end on May 4, 2013 at Crystal Palace.
