Boyd: My best ever goal

George Boyd insists he’s never scored a goal as good as his second strike against Huddersfield at London Road last night (October 23).

The Posh midfielder smashed home a 50-yard volley to set his side on the way to their first home win of the Championship season. Posh beat ‘The Terriers’ 3-1 to move off the bottom of the table.

Boyd had earlier opened the scoring before creating a third goal for teenager Kgosi Ntlhe, the first of his senior career.

Boyd said: “That’s definitely my new number one. I scored a similar goal against Boston for Posh once, but that was from closer in so this has to be my best goal now.

“It was a lovely set up from Saido Berahino and I had a little look over my shoulder to see where the goalkeeper was before shooting. I couldn’t tell exactly how far off his line he was, but I thought it was worth a go.

“I’m glad it went in because the manager would have slaughtered me for shooting from that distance!”

Posh boss Darren Ferguson hailed Boyd’s display, but also emphasised what a great team performance it had been to see off the high-flying visitors.

Ferguson said: “George has been in good form of late. He would be the first to admit that some of his performances have been poor this season, but the Ipswich transfer stuff definitely affected him.

“I left him out for a game, but since he’s come back he’s been back to his best. His first goal was a very good goal, but his second was just world class.

“If Messi had scored that it would be replayed over and over again on the television. It’s a very difficult skill to pull off a goal from that range.

“It was a special goal from a special player, but I felt the whole team performed well.

“We had a gameplan that the players executed perfectly. There were some very good performances out there from the likes of Kgosi, Mark Little and Lee Tomlin.

“It was important that we started winning at home to give ourselves a chance. We have had a disastrous start to the season, but getting off the bottom of the table is a boost.

“We have nine points now so just another 41 to go.”

Posh have a chance of back-to-back home wins as Derby visit London Road on Saturday (October 27). Derby won at Ipswich last night to send the Tractor Boys to the bottom of the table.

The best Posh goal ever?
