Boyd happy to stay put at Posh

GEORGE Boyd will be happy to serve Peterborough United for one more season.
The crowd favourite’s future has been the subject of much speculation since it was revealed that he would not sign a new contract once his current deal expires at the end of next season.
Boyd was sent out on loan to Nottingham Forest towards the end of last season. Forest and fellow Championship clubs Middlesbrough, Derby and Ipswich have all been linked with a move for the Scottish B international this summer.
But Boyd returned to pre-season training with the rest of the senior Posh squad yesterday and insisted he would give 100 per cent to the cause while he remained at London Road.
Posh director of football Barry Fry revealed recently that he has been ordered by club chairman Darragh MacAnthony to have one more go at persuading Boyd to extend his stay.
But Boyd insists that no meeting has yet been arranged. Boyd said: “I’m a Peterborough player for one more year and I don’t mind if I stay at the club for the whole season.
“I’m not going to cause trouble and I’m not going to make a fuss about moving. I will continue to give the club everything while I am here.
“I have heard that Barry wants to meet me, but nothing has been arranged. As things stand I am here for next season and until anything changes I will give 100 per cent as that’s the way I am.
“It’s flattering that Championship clubs are interested in me, but I won’t let that affect my performances for Peterborough.”
Only Middlesbrough have so far made a firm bid for Boyd, but Posh rejected an offer of £1 million plus another million in add ons.
If Boyd stays to the end of next season without renewing his contract he would be entitled to leave London Road for nothing. Posh are believed to want a fee in excess of £2 million for a player they signed from Stevenage for £265,000 in January, 2007.
Stevenage would be entitled to a sizable chunk of any transfer fee as part of that deal.
n THE Posh trip to Colchester for a League One fixture has been brought forward 24 hours to Friday, January 28 (7.45pm kick-off) at the request of the home club.
Colchester are experimenting with Friday night football to encourage bigger gates.

Wednesday, June 30, 2010 at 01:56 PMHow would Friday nights encourage bigger gates, everyone knows that Friday night is Pub night and Saturday afternoon is for football. I was looking forward to the Colchester fixture with 5 others as its quite close for us, but now we will not be able to make it; bad call.
